Lawrence  R "Larry" Barcosky
Lawrence R. “Larry” Barcosky, 77, of Drifting, passed away from complications of ALS at his home on Saturday, March 10, 2018. Born on February 5, 1941, in Marianna, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph and Helen Goodwin Barcosky. On July 29, 2011, in Kylertown, he married Ruth I. Kellander McCloskey, who survives at home.
Larry was a 1959 graduate of West Bethlehem High School, where he excelled in football and basketball. He was of the protestant faith.
Larry was enlisted in the US Army where he earned the rank of SP4. His service time was from 1962 until his honorable discharge in 1965.
Larry was employed at Piper for many years before it’s downsize. He then went to work at Corning as a Cold End Operator. He retired in 2001 after 25 years of service.
Larry enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an avid gardener. He would can all his harvest. He made the best hot peppers, pickles, and tomato sauce. He was a master grill chef, preparing everything he could for his family. Even in the winter, he would shovel a path to the grill, so he could us it. He enjoyed the yearly trips to the property in Sunset Beach in North Carolina. His family was his world. There isn’t anything he would not do for them. He loved to walk his k-9 companions, Shiloh and Baby.
Larry is survived by his wife; daughter, Laurie Ann Lynch and her husband, Jeffery of Bellefonte, two stepsons: Chad McCloskey and his companion, Kandy Ralston of Grassflat and Dan McCloskey of Snow Shoe; on sister, Eileen English and her husband, Ronald, of Gilbertsville, PA; and two brothers: Joe Barcosky and his wife, Ann, of Rabun Gap, GA and Bill Barcosky and his wife, Rose, of Amherst, VA.
Also surviving Larry are his four grandchildren, Natasha L. Marcinko and her companion, Joe Martin, Edward J. Zelensky Jr, and his fiancé Stephanie Pickette, Alexis K. Zelensky and her fiancé, Michael Hampton, and Jeffery Lynch, Jr., and five great grandchildren.
Along with his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his first wife of 43 years, Maryanne Lyncha Barcosky who passed away on January 5, 2011.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 from 6-8pm and on Thursday, March 15, 2018 from 10am until the time of service at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home in Snow Shoe. Funeral services will be on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at 11am at the funeral home with Pastor Douglas Mellott officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at St. Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Cemetery in Grassflat.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Association (Lou Gehrig’s Foundation) Western Pennsylvania Chapter, 416 Lincoln Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15209.
