Lawrence E "Larry" McKean

Lawrence E. “Larry” “Sonny” McKean, 87, of Clarence, passed away at the Mount Nittany Medical Center on Thursday, March 22, 2018. Born on February 6, 1931, in Snow Shoe, he was the son of the late John B. and Anna F. McQuillen McKean. On April 8, 1950, in Snow Shoe, he married Mary E. Swartz, who survives at home.
Larry was a life member of the Snow Shoe United Methodist Church. He attended the Snow Show High School. He was a truck driver most of his life, driving last for Wilson Trucking. He also worked as a Bus Tester for Penn State University, retiring in 1993.
Larry was an excellent welder. He could fabricate anything. He loved to take things apart, just to see how they worked. He enjoyed watching boxing on TV and was an avid reader. His favorite pastime was being with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Larry is survived by his wife of almost 68 years; their seven children; Shane L. McKean and his wife, Vicky, of Snow Shoe, Trilby E. Mayes and her husband, Larry, of Snow Shoe, Lois L. McKean and her companion, Tom, of Pleasant Gap, Erin A. Cramer of Clarence, Amy J. Haislet and her companion, Steve, of Bellefonte, Darren J. McKean of Clarence, and Jason V. McKean and his wife, Layla, of Front Royal, VA.
Also surviving are his 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and his best friends, Robert and Peggy Livergood.
Along with his parents, Larry was preceded in death by two sisters; Joyce Hafner and Peggy Furfaro. Larry was the last of his generation.
In accordance with Larry’s wishes, there will be no public services. All services will be private and announced at a later time.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, 106 W. Sycamore St. Snow Shoe. An online guest book can be signed or condolences to the family available at
